Had a good wednesday

I had a great wednesday in cape town. Not too much to say - i'll let the photos speak for themselves.

Why do I love trends so?

Boy do I love trends!

I really can't help myself.

Who wouldn't want to catch a pre-release glimpse of the things that are to be suprising you tomorrow. You can't hide from them so embrace them ...

Here are a few trends in advertising -

economics of size

I used to work for a global company that could be best described as a non-global, global entity. As this was my first ever 'real' job I expected seamless communication between countries, collaborations and intelligence. HaH! fat chance - the place was ruled by ego's in command and day to day myopic agendas - but I got what I needed from them (they got what they needed from me - the perfect exchange) I got to fly around the world, seeing places from Helsinki to Moscow, it was fun.

The problem - they got some funding, got fat and lazy and never innovated beyond the obvious.

Psychometric tests say i'm an 'innovator' so i'd research the cutting edge of tech and present to blank stares and circular meetings that would go something like this:

me: "I have worked out how to send croissants to mobile phone"
them: "Really ? how will it make money ?"
me: "I'm not sure, but lets test it ?"
them: "We need to now if it's going to make any money before we test it"
me:"yes, but if we test it, we'll be one step closer"
them: "sure, but we should really be able to deliver green eggs like {insert archrival competitor here}"
them: "you know, we should try do something different in this market, lets have a strategy breakaway meeting!"
me: "so what about implementing this new idea"

2 weeks later

them: "{insert archrival competitor here} has just launched delivery of croissants to mobile, we should see if we can do that"
me:"sigh...."

12 months later

them: "we've just managed to test a download of a croissant to a mobile phone, we will spec it and get ready to launch next quarter"

This happened again and again and I finally got bored and left.

more to follow....

It begins ...

Without direction; without focus; and missing meaning.

This is where the words start out as ramblings ... growing a silent voice of revolution to leave a dent in our small universe.
